Nugent's family angry Bernie Tiede is out of jail

Do you remember the movie "Bernie" staring Jack Black?

That was based on a true story out of east Texas. The real-life granddaughter of the rich widow the film was based on talked with FOX 7 Monday night.

In 1999, Bernie Tiede was sentenced to life in prison for the death of 81-year-old Majorie Nugent.

But as part of an agreement this past May, Tiede was set free and has been living in Austin with filmmaker Richard Linklater who directed the movie.

I know you would probably prefer I move on to other subjects, but Bernie Tiede, I can’t quit you. You planned out the murder of an elderly lady, Marjorie Nugent, then stuffed her body into a deep freezer back in 1996. Now, in 2014, you are walking free down in Austin, the guest of film director Richard Linklater, all because Linklater used his star power to get your prison sentence at least temporarily suspended while an appeals panel reviews your case.

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- In Carthage, several residents are worried whether the movie 'Bernie' is a fair portrayal of what really happened. In a sensational trial in 1998, evidence showed Bernie Tiede embezzled from 81 year old Marjorie Nugent, then killed her. Tiede is portrayed in the movie 'Bernie', as a dark comical figure, but many who knew him say nothing was funny about him, or what he did.
