Nugent Family Statement on Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Mandate

AUSTIN, TX - On Monday, the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals issued its Mandate that Panola County bring convicted murderer Bernie Tiede back for a new sentencing hearing. In November, the court vacated Tiede's life sentence, and now a Panola County court will have to issue a new sentence for the crime of the murder of Marjorie Nugent.

Bernie movie participants named in request of public records

The latest development in the Bernie Tiede case is a public records request addressed to Panola District Attorney Danny "Buck" Davidson.

This letter points to a possible conflict of interest that Davidson should have disclosed if he was paid for any part of the Bernie movie.The family asks Davidson to disclose how much money he was paid for the movie, or paid for related junkets to promote the movie.

AUSTIN (KYTX)- Panola County District Attorney Danny Buck Davidson received a letter today from the Nugent family demanding that he recuse himself from the forthcoming sentencing hearing for convicted murderer Bernie Tiede because Davidson has a conflict of interest and he lacks impartiality.

The family of elderly murder victim Marjorie Nugent sent a letter Monday to the prosecutor in the case, Panola County District Attorney Danny Buck Davidson, asking that he recuse himself from appearing before the court for the convicted murderer’s new sentencing hearing. If Davidson doesn’t recuse himself, it’s a near certainty that murderer Bernie Tiede, whose exploits were portrayed sympathetically in the 2011 film Bernie, will remain free despite having received a life sentence for the 1996 murder.
